Wasted! Bomb disposal team gets it wrong, kills 2

A blast at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, 3 Armoured Division, Rukuba Barracks in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday caused panic among residents of the metropolis

The blast was said to have been caused by the destruction of old explosives in an old ammunition armoury.

Speaking on the incidence, Plateau state Police Commissioner, Nasiru Oki, said men and officers of the military facility were evacuating some of their old explosive devices when some exploded.

Also confirming the blast, the Army on its part confirmed that two soldiers died in the accident while one sustained injuries in the explosion near its 3rd Armoured Division barracks.

The authorities said the explosion occurred as troops were moving some un-useful ammunition authorised for destruction in a bush.
