Wenger says Iwobi sustained an injury at Old Trafford

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, confirmed that Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi picked up a harmstring injury in Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Frenchman made this known in his postmatch conference, as he looks forward to his sde’s crucial Europa League encounter against Atletico Madrid.

Iwobi played throughout the game against United – his 23rd league appearance for the Gunners this season.

At the post-match conference, Wenger said: “I took off Mkhitaryan because he had a little knock on his knee again, on the same knee – we could see that just looking at him in the dressing room.

“Ospina has a rib problem and Alex Iwobi has a hamstring problem, so we’ll see how well everyone recovers. Thursday will come very quickly.

”But we’ll have to monitor them over the next 48 hours. We’ll know more on Tuesday,” he added.

Iwobi’s injury if serious might be a big blow for the national team who are preparing to make their 6th appearance at the FIFA World Cup in Russia this June.

Also over the weekend, Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi picked a knock in Leicester City’s 5-0 thumping by Crystal Palace.
