West African leaders fail to reach deal with hard stance Jammeh

Gambia’s President Yayha Jammeh has not shifted grounds concerning his stance on the outcome of the last elections as African leaders failed to reach a deal that would see him accept the poll outcome and end a deepening political crisis.

Speaking on behalf of the West African led delegation, President Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia said convincing Jammeh is not something that can be done in one day.

“It is not time for a deal. It is not something that can happen in one day. It is something that we have to work on,” she said.

Continuing, Sirleaf said regional leaders will discuss the crisis at an ECOWAS summit in Nigeria on Saturday, she said, adding that Jammeh had given her assurances that peace and stability would be preserved.
