Wike speaks tough, says DSS can cow other governors not me

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has said he can never be cowed by the Department of State Security (DSS), maintaining that if they can intimidate other governors, he is not the type they can do that to.

This was as the governor avowed that no level of intimidation or blackmail from any security agency of the federal government will frighten him into selling out the state to external raiders.

Wike who stated this when he spoke with Rivers State Elders Council of Ministers (RISECOM), called on people of the state not to fear because nobody can take the state by force regardless of the continued blackmail by the Police and the DSS.

He said, “This is a turbulent period. However, we will overcome. They can cow other governors, but not me.

“None of them gave me the mandate. The people of Rivers State gave me this mandate and I will never sell the interest of this state for whatever reason. I will not bring out the money of Rivers State to sponsor other people outside the state.

“If they like, let them bring all manner of accusations daily, it will not cow me. Three days ago, they sponsored protests against me in Abuja with the Police leading the protesters. It is so unfortunate how they can descend so low. The DSS are unhappy because I stopped them from kidnapping a judge. Till today, they are yet to invite that particular judge.

“I never sponsored anyone to protest. Assuming, people want to protest, are we not in a democracy? If I am the one who is the sponsor of the planned protest in my favour, who sponsored the protests against me. It means they are the people who sponsored the protests”.

The DSS had accused Governor Wike of sponsoring Senate President Bukola Saraki’s Special Adviser on Youth Matters, Ikenga Ugochinyere, of plotting to hold a protest in Abuja over the events of the last rerun elections in Rivers State.

According to the DSS, the protest has sinister undertone and if it had been allowed to hold, would have been capable of destabilising things and painting the government in a bad image internationally.

Meanwhile, some critics are questioning while the DSS was unable to stop the protest in Abuja that was against Wike but was alive to duty in the purported protest was sponsored by Wike to give government a bad image.
