FA CUP: Pellegrini hails Ihenacho’s goal as City wins

Manchester City coach Manuel Pellegrini has praised Super Eagles midfielder, Kelechi Iheanacho, for scoring and inspiring the club to a 3-0 FA Cup Third Round win at Norwich City on Saturday.

Manchester City strolled through at Carrow Road, where Sergio Aguero put the visitors ahead in the 16th minute with a driving run and emphatic shot.

Aguero set up 19-year-old strike partner Kelechi Iheanacho for City’s second goal on the half-hour and substitute Kevin De Bruyne wrapped up victory 12 minutes from time.

“One of the merits of this squad is to be involved in so many competitions even with the injuries that we have to important players.

“That’s why when you have the option, as Kelechi had today, I think it’s very important to demonstrate why they are in this squad. All the players are involved mentally and physically and they know that they are important if we want to continue playing in all competitions.”

“When Sergio starts playing more games, he always improves his performance. He scored a beautiful goal and I’m sure that every game he plays he will perform because we know that he is a top player.”

Manchester City return to The Etihad Wednesday for a league clash with Everton. It will be the second of three January meetings between the Citizens and Toffees.
