Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said that there is nothing like indigene versus settlers any longer in the state and that everybody living in Kano, including Ndigbo, are now indigenes of the state.

The governor said this on Wednesday when he visited the national secretariat of his All Progressives Congress (APC) party in Abuja.

He was accosted reacting to question on the insistence by Arewa youths that Ndigbo in all northern states must vacate the region on or before October 1.

He said, “Nobody has quit Kano; they said they are not going anywhere and we too, we told them that they were not going anywhere. So, it is an issue that we in Kano want to show to be an example of national integration, therefore, in Kano we are dialogue with the people and in fact we have even abolished the issue of indigene versus settlers.

Everybody in Kano is an indigene of Kano but there are some indigenes of Kano with primordial claims elsewhere which is a fact.”

Ganduje, who called on all Nigerians in the state to go about their normal businesses without fear of molestation, added that the state will ensure it continues to set the pace on issues of national integration.

Commenting on the recent problem between Kano State government and Emir Muhammadu Sanusi, the governor said, “I am not aware of any compromise by the State Assembly but I know that I personally wrote to them, asking them to discontinue the investigation because of so many requests by some highly placed individuals in the country.

“Clearly the reasons were mentioned in the letter to the state Assembly and were widely published in the national dailies. We just had a successful Sallah celebration and it was peaceful.”

This is how all these politicians will be using politically correct speeches to deceive people. If Arewa youths start to carry out their threat come October 1st, what will Ganduje do? Arrest them? I don’t think so. The real problem here is that the Northern youths and SE youths are agitated and heading for a show down that might have terrible consequences for this country. How come nobody is engaging these youths? Old men who cannot and will not fight are holding meetings and making speeches, assuring us that all will be well. But how will all be well when the warring parties are sticking to their guns? Is it everything we will approach with hypocrisy and propaganda in this country?
