Tottenham’s previous transfer record was the £42m paid to sign defender Davinson Sanchez from Ajax in August 2017.

Ndombele, who helped Lyon finish third in the Ligue 1 last season, made 96 appearances for the team and registered 16 assists.

Spurs already signed Jack Clarke from Leeds United as their first transfer deal this summer.

The winger, however, was immediately loaned back to the Championship side for the 2019-20 season.
