Tech billionaire Elon Musk has confirmed that his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) experienced a ‘massive ‘cyberattack’ allagedly launched by Ukrainians.

Musk revealed this in a live interview with Fox News on Monday, stating that IP addresses originating in the Ukraine region appeared to be the source of the purported hack against X.

Following around eight hours of disruptions, thousands of users—many of whom were in the United States—were unable to use the X platform yesterday. Musk said that the platform was facing a “massive cyberattack.”

“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against . We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing …” he wrote on X.

Later that day, Musk reaffirmed his allegation of a cyberattack in an interview with Fox Business, speculating that the attackers might have been Ukrainian.

“We’re not sure exactly what happened but there was a massive cyber-attack to try and bring down the X system with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area,” Musk said.
