Makinde tasks military to combat security challenges in 2025
The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has urged the Nigerian military forces to intensify more efforts in the fight against terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, and other security threats that could hinder the country’s economic development this year.
Makinde made the call during the closing of the 2024 Base Sociocultural Activities and Veterans’ Parley of the 655 Nigerian Air Force Station, held in Ibadan, the state capital, on Tuesday.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, the governor reflected on 2024 as a successful year, expressing appreciation for the military’s pivotal role in maintaining peace and security in the state throughout the year.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing necessary support to ensure the safety of lives and property in the region.

He said: “We want to charge the Nigerian military to intensify its efforts in 2025 to combat terrorism, kidnapping, armed banditry, and other security threats that could hinder the country’s economic development.”
However, in his address, the Commander of the 655 Nigerian Air Force Station, Air Commodore George Akinyimika, thanked the governor for his ongoing support of military activities.
He recognised the strong collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force, the state government, the Nigerian Army, and other security agencies.
Kidnapping and banditry, including all terrorism-related activities have plagued Nigeria, especially in the northern part of the country, for years.
This had resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of properties. Some residents of communities have also been displaced and living in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps where life has been rough and tough for them.
