Dangote Cement invests $280m in CNG transition

Dangote Cement Plc on Sunday, announced a significant investment of over $280 million in compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks, technology and infrastructure.

This move is part of the company’s long-term plan to transition its entire fleet to CNG, reinforcing its commitment to mitigating climate change and supporting a low-carbon economy.

Arvind Pathak, Group Managing Director (GMD) of Dangote Cement, revealed the investment at an event in Abuja, highlighting the company’s dedication to clean energy transition.

He said: “This move marks a significant milestone in Dangote’s clean energy transition, to operate most of its fleet on CNG by mid-2026,” Pathak stated.

“By mid-2026, Dangote Cement aims to operate a fleet predominantly powered by CNG.”

Investment Breakdown

Trucks– 3,100 CNG trucks: 1,500 mono-fuel CNG trucks already received, with an additional 1,600 expected by year-end.

Infrastructure– Expansion of CNG fuelling infrastructure to support the growing fleet.

Pathak emphasized the positive influence of Dangote’s CNG infrastructure investments on Nigeria’s transition to cleaner fuels.

“We are keeping our eyes on the ball to ensure that we do not miss our target dates of full compliance,” he assured.

“Our investment in CNG technology and infrastructure demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.”
