For second consecutive time, Nigeria’s Super Falcons will not play in the football event of the Olympics after they went down to a 2-1 defeat in the hands of Equatorial Guinea in the second leg of their Rio 2016 qualifier on Sunday.

The Nigerians were held to a goalless draw in Abuja two weeks ago and raced to an early lead in Bata when Ngozi Okobi hit target in the 15th minute but a late minute equaliser by the Equatoguineans cancelled out the lead and forced the game into extra time.

The coach Christopher Danjuma-led team held on in the first half of the extra time but succumbed in the second as their hosts got the winner to progress on 3-2 aggregate.

Despite being African champions Nigeria did not make it to the London 2012 Olympics and have suffered same fate again.
