Nigerian govt to tackle food security, challenge of IDPs, migrants with farm initiative
National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) have joined forces to establish farming clusters for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and migrants across Nigeria.
The partnership, sealed in Abuja on Wednesday, is part of the Renewed Hope Restoration Project, an initiative designed to improve the lives of IDPs and migrants in Nigeria.
According to Cornelius Adebayo, Executive Secretary of NALDA, the project aims to provide sustainable settlements for displaced communities, covering land areas ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 hectares in selected states.
The project will focus on eight states, including Oyo, Katsina, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Abia, and Cross River. By integrating IDPs and migrants into farming activities, the project seeks to create job opportunities, provide resources for rebuilding lives, and contribute to the nation’s food security.
