The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has resumed office weeks after he was reinstated by the court.

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on July 17 reinstated Shaibu as the deputy governor of Edo State and directed the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to restore his security details.

The judge, who delivered judgement in a suit filed by the deputy governor, declared that his (Shaibu) impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly was illegal and unconstitutional.

He held that the impeachment was in gross violation of sections 188 and 35 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

In a video broadcast on Monday, the deputy governor directed his staff who have yet to resume work since his reinstatement to return to the duty posts or face the consequences.

He also warned banks carrying out transactions with the office of the deputy governor without his approval about the illegality of such transactions.

The deputy governor equally expressed shock over the killing of a police officer attached to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Monday Okpebholo.

The police officer was killed during an attack on the convoy of the deputy governor and Okpebholo shortly after the arrival from Abuja on July 19.

The duo were in Edo State for a reception put together by some groups to celebrate Shaibu’s reinstatement as deputy governor when they came under attack from criminals.
