Mrs Margaret Emefiele, wife of the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele who was kidnapped on Thursday has regained her freedom.

She was reportedly set free by a combined team of military operatives and the police after 24 hours in custody of her abductors around Ugoneki near Benin City, Edo state.

Details of the operation are still unclear, but Mrs Emefiele is said to be recuperating at the Government House Asaba.

Security sources say those who kidnapped her were unaware of her identity at the time of the incident, but merely stumbled on her in a trade that is increasingly becoming popular among criminally minded youths in the southern parts of the country.

This, the source said was a major reason the kidnapping was kept quiet for about 24 hours before it went public, adding that as at when it became public knowledge that she had been kidnapped, the security forces were already very close to releasing her.
