CBN Gov Emefiele's wife reportedly kidnapped, N200m ransom demanded

The wife of Godwin Emefiele, the governor of Nigeria’s Central Bank (cbn), Mrs. Margaret Emefiele, has been reportedly kidnapped by gun men.

Sketchy reports say she was abducted at about 2pm on Thursday along the Benin-Agbor Road.

Mrs. Emefiele was said to be on a private visit to a neighnouring town near Agbor, Delta State but, unknown to her and her aides, they were being trailed.

It was not known the motive behind the kidnap, but unconfirmed report says it could be part of the new trend in that part of the region, where young people have taken to the act to make money.

Unofficial sources said the kidnappers later made a call, demanding N200 million as ransom before she could be released.

There are also unconfirmed reports that men and officers of the Nigerian Army and Air Force have stormed the forest areas around the stretch or road where she was abducted in efforts to catch up with her abductors.

No official of the CBN was willing to offer comment and even the CBN governor was yet make any comment on the development. There are concerns that this sad development could send negative signals to prospective investors who are keen to invest in the Nigerian economy.
