Goods worth millions of naira lost as fire razes Nasarawa market
Fire on Friday night razed the popular Masaka Market in Karu local government area of Nasarawa State.
However, the cause of the fire which destroyed goods worth millions of naira has not been ascertained.
The fire, according to eyewitnesses, started at 10:00 p.m.
Several traders have expressed sadness over the incident in a chat with journalists on Saturday.
A trader, Ahmed Ayuba, said he was devastated as all his goods were burnt to ashes.
“I returned from the market yesterday, and people had already paid for some of the goods. Not only have I lost money, but I am also in debt now. The government should come to our aid,” he said.
Another shop owner in the market, John Uche, lamented the chaos and theft that followed the fire.
Uche said: “I lost everything, including the money I kept in my shop. The goods in my shop were bought with money I loaned from the bank.
“People used the opportunity to steal the goods left. It is not a good sight to behold.”
