Super Eagles World Cup

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will today (Saturday) play against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a matchday 5 of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Having secured 9 points from four matches and standing atop the Group E, the Eagles are just one point away from sealing their spot in the finals.

Gernot Rohr’s men kicked off their qualifying campaign with a disappointing 2-0 defeat to South Africa in Uyo last year, and are gunning for a revenge in Johannesburg.

“Our determination is to win and pick our ticket to the AFCON ahead of the final matchday next year. South Africa came to Nigeria to beat us and we are here to return the compliment,” Nigeria forward and stand-in captain, Ahmed Musa said ahead of the game.

“They (Bafana) are a strong team and we will not under –rate them. But we are here for the three points.”

Nigeria missed out of the last two editions of the Nations Cup, as they have failed to qualify for the tournament since lifting the trophy back in 2013.

Also, Nigeria has not beaten South Africa at senior level in the last four encounters between both nations. They picked up two draws and one defeat.

Hence a win for Nigeria in Johannesburg would mean a lot for Rohr’s men, who will return to Asaba on Sunday ahead of their international friendly with Uganda on Tuesday.

The game against South Africa will kick off by 2:00p.m.
