Alec Baldwin’s ‘Rust’ shooting case ends as prosecutors drop appeal

The longstanding shooting case involving popular Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin has finally ended after New Mexico prosecutors dropped their appeal.

The fresh development effectively ends an effort to revive charges against Alec Baldwin in connection with the fatal shooting on the set of his movie “Rust.”

The state appeal was first filed in November, but special prosecutor Kari Morrissey withdrew it on Monday, the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office said.

“The appeal would have challenged the Court’s dismissal of criminal charges against Producer and Actor, Alec Baldwin which included involuntary manslaughter in the tragic shooting of Cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust on October 21, 2021,” the statement said.

Recall that the revolver Baldwin, 64, had been carrying had misfired, killing Cinematographer Hutchins, 42, and wounding director Joel Souza as well on the set of the movie ‘Rust’.

As they rehearsed a scene on stage, Baldwin thought he was carrying a “cold gun”—one devoid of live ammunition—when the gun exploded.

However, Baldwin has insisted repeatedly that he did not pull the trigger of the gun, saying the rifle was just in his hands when it misfired, killing Hutchins on the set of the movie.
