Village head arrested, arraigned for alleged robbery, attempted murder

The long arm of the law has caught up with the village head of Annan Ikono in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, identified as Eteidung Eseme Obot for an alleged robbery and murder attempt.

Obot was arraigned on Friday at the Magistrate Court Three, Uyo Division by the Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi in a suit with file number MU/703C/2018.

The accused who allegedly perpetrated the crime against the petitioner, Otuekong Timothy was arraigned on four counts bordering on conspiracy; attempted murder; threat to life, and armed robbery.

The case was however adjourned for for further hearing till April 26, 2018.

Reports say the accused attempted to take the life of the petitioner after he told him to pay an annual sum of 10 per cent over a land that Timothy had made payment for and had started developing the site for his poultry farm and other farming activities.

Timothy, who according to reports is a stranger to the community, refused the demands of the village head who later stormed the petitioners farm with three of his sons causing huge damage to property at the premises.

The petitioner later reported the matter to the police and based on the petition of the police, the village head was arrested and later granted bail while the matter was charged to court.
