Arsenal reach UCL quarter­finals as Real Madrid knock Atletico out after shootout

Arsenal and Aston Villa have cruised past their opponents to reach the Champions League quarter­finals.

Leading 7-1 from the first leg of their round of 16 tie with PSV, Arsenal played a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night to win 9-3 on aggregate.

Villa, on the other hand, had won 3-1 in the first leg against Club Brugge, and went on to secure a 3-0 victory in the second leg to finish 6-1 on aggregate.

Elsewhere, Dortmund defeated Lille 2-1 in France to go through to the quarter-finals, having been held 1-1 at home in the first leg of the tie.

In the Madrid derby, Atletico, trailing 2-1 from the first leg, scored the only goal of the game in normal time, to force the tie into extra time.

The tie eventually went into penalty shootout, and Real Madrid won 4-2 to scale through.
