Charles officially proclaimed King of England

Published

An historic ritual was performed on Saturday officially announcing the accession of Charles as the new king of England following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The proclamation of the new British monarch was made on Saturday in a modern version of an Anglo-Saxon ceremony steeped in political symbolism by an Accession Council, which effectively means the 73-year-old automatically succeeds his mother.

The council made up of Privy Counsellors with the role of acting as an advisory body for the monarch, included his son and heir William, whose new title is Prince of Wales, wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, Britain’s new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, who signed the proclamation of his accession, as well as a host of senior political and religious figures.

The event which held at St. James’s Palace in London was followed by gun salutes, fanfare and declarations across the United Kingdom.

Six former prime ministers, senior bishops and a swathe of politicians cried out “God Save The King” as the announcement was approved to round up the epoch making occasion which was televised for the first time.
