NASS calls off recess, fixes date for resumption

The National Assembly has called off its recess and fixed a date for resumption of plenary.

It is to reconvene on Tuesday, August 14.

This was announced on Thursday by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Lasun.

Indications of an imminent resumption had emerged on Wednesday after the leadership of the National Assembly met with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

The meeting which had originally been scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed after the siege laid to the National Assembly by personnel of the State Security Service (SSS).

The agenda is expected to be the consideration, passage and appropriation of money for the budget of the 2019 general elections.

It would be recalled that both houses of the National Assembly went on recess on the 27th of August. The Senate was originally billed to resume on the 25th of September.
