No such plan to spend N850m for Christmas trees, Okorocha says

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has denied that his administration has plans to spend N850 million on Christmas trees for the decoration of some parts of the state.

A group in the state which identified itself as G-42 Imo Liberation Forum, had following allegation that Okorocha’s government had planned to spend N850 million on Christmas trees, cautioned the governor against going ahead with any such thing. It described the alleged plan as “a misplaced priority.”

The group had argued that the state government will be insensitive with such a thing “in the midst of scarce resources and at a time when the workers’ salaries and pensioners’ pensions were not being paid in full.”

But in his reaction through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, Governor Okorocha denied the allegation and wondered why people are spreading such lies when the Christmas celebrations had yet to commence.

“The allegation is baseless and aimed at destroying the already built positive image of the Rescue Mission Government in the state,” he said.
