Police nab fake air force officer who beat up female cop

A fake military personnel who posed as a Squadron Leader of the Nigerian Air Force has been arrested by the police for impersonation and beating up a female cop.

Reports say the 34-year-old fake military officer, Lucky Onofua, beat up a female sergeant who was controlling traffic at the Egbeda area of Lagos for daring to stop his SUV at an intersection.

Onofua who felt infuriated by the action of the female cop got down from his vehicle and allegedly flogged the sergeant who held on to the uniform of the fake officer in the commotion that ensued.

Sources say a distress call was later put through to the Shasha Police Division and when policemen arrived the scene, Onofua was asked to identify himself but he insisted he was an air force officer.

He was later taken to the police station where a call to ascertain his identity was put though to authorities of the Nigerian Air Force, Ikeja.

Luck ran out for Onofua after the arrival of two Wing Commanders of the Nigeria Air Force who confirmed that he was a fake officer.

According to a witness at the scene of the incident, Onofua beat up the female sergeant for daring to stop the vehicle of a military officer.

“The traffic light is around a commercial bank on Egbeda Road. The area was busy. The policewoman asked the SUV to stop so that vehicles on the other side could pass. The man refused.

“The sergeant too became angry and stood in front of the vehicle. The man came down and began to flog her with a horse whip. She held his clothes and began to tear them.

“Other motorists were afraid that it could lead to a free-for-all between security operatives and they alerted the Shasha division. That was how the man and the sergeant were invited to the station.”

Commenting on the case, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, said, “The suspect will be charged to court for serious assault and impersonation. He allegedly hit the sergeant with his vehicle, and came down to whip the policewoman all over.

“The Nigerian Air Force authorities were invited and we discovered that the man was an impostor. We are currently investigating the matter.”
