RUSSIA PROBE: Trump's ex- campaign manager Manafort lied to investigators, Judge says

President Donald Trump’s ex-campaign manager Paul Manafort 69, has been sentenced to a 47-month jail term for fraud.

The charges relate to an alleged Russian election meddling in the 2016 US elections before Manafort was convicted last year of storing millions of dollars of income received by his political consulting in Ukraine.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller, US Department of Justice claims that the 47-month sentence is short based on an earlier suggested sentence

Manafort, will face sentenced in another case next week which is tied to his illegal lobbying that has triggered a downfall for a Republican political expert who advised four US presidents, including Mr Trump, and foreign leaders.

Manafort who will receive credit for time served is expected to pay $24m in compensation and a $50,000 fine.

While reacting to the sentence, other democrats and US Senator Amy Klobuchar who is running for the Democratic nomination for president, said Manafort had lived reputably well.
