The United Nations in response to North Korea‘s fifth and largest nuclear test yet, has slammed the Asian nation with tougher sanctions.
The UN Security council following a sitting unanimously approved a resolution targeting wide range of sanctions in response to the September test by North Korea.
The decision by the UN follows months of diplomatic wrangling over how best to respond to North Korea’s latest nuclear test and their repeated defiance of international sanctions and diplomatic pressure.
Reacting after the development, the UN secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon, who is South Korean, said; “The security council has today taken strong action on one of the most enduring and pressing peace and security challenges of our time: the nuclear and ballistic missile activities of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
Continuing, he added that; “I welcome the unanimous adoption of this new resolution”.
