2019:Anambra goes tough on politicians over adverts

The Anambra State Government has said that politicians who refuse to pay taxes and levies on political adverts as appropriate will be arrested.

According to the Managing Director of the state Synage Advertising Agency, Mr. Jude Emecheta, the directive for aspirants for the next general elections cuts across party lines, contrary to insinuations that the state government is out to victimize politicians.

Speaking on the development in his office on Thursday, Emecheta said the taxes and levies aspirants were expected to pay were on branded vehicles, placement of banners and posters.

He also added that the agency has made arrangements to arrest such politicians and impound their vehicles to commit them to pay or prosecute them as appropriate.

He added, “No vehicle has been impounded for now. We only started the sensitisation; the implementation will commence next week.

“There is no law that says APGA members not pay such taxes and levies; it cuts across all political parties in the state.

“We will start impounding vehicles of those who refused to pay; you can brand your vehicle without putting any pictures on it, but once your picture appears, it becomes an advert and you must pay.”
