The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has resigned.
The deputy governor, who is also the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the 2019 general elections, was said to have resigned on Tuesday night.
The resignation, which had been long expected, followed the dumping of the APC by Governor Aminu Tambuwal for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Tambuwal, who, contested the presidential primaries of the PDP, lost out and could not also secure the governorship ticket of the PDP for the state.
According to reports, the deputy governor submitted a copy of his resignation letter to the state’s House of Assembly, but the House decided to make it secret as it was not read on the floor during Tuesday’s plenary session.
