Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has paid a commiseration visit to Borno State following the devastating flood disaster that ravaged Maiduguri last week.

The flood, which came as a result of the collapse of the Alau Dam on Tuesday, has so far displaced over one million people with more than 50 people confirmed missing.

“A short while ago, I arrived in Maiduguri for a sympathy visit to the people of Borno State over the recent catastrophic flooding,” he wrote.

“I commiserate with the government and people of Borno State over the catastrophic flooding that led to the tragic loss of lives, destruction of property, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands from their homes.

“You are not alone in this difficult time, and I, on behalf of my family, pledge my full support towards the rebuilding efforts.”
