CAN backs Lagos on ‘nuisance worship centres’

Published

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has commended the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency’s (LASEPA) moves to curb noise and air pollution in the state, which has seen the agency sealing a number of hotels, churches and mosques in the state.
No fewer than 30 facilities were shut in the Ketu, Ikorodu, Ibeju-Lekki, Victoria Island and Surulere areas of the state.
The Lagos Island chapter of the association, in a statement on Thursday noted, that “We join the agency in advocating the eradication of this enigma constituting public nuisance in Lagos State.”
The association called for the prosecution of erring citizens and organisations.

It said, “We seize this opportunity to implore LASEPA to see that all parts of the state are sanitised and the excesses of houses of worship with horn, studio, field or stadium speakers are curbed. We call for holistic clampdown, prosecution and sanction of culprits who do not adhere to the law.
