Gov withholds salaries of 16 officials for lateness

Lateness has caused 16 top officials of Ebonyi State Government their September emoluments.

The state governor, Dave Umahi, has directed that the officials, who included some members of the State Executive Council (SEC), should forfeit their salaries and other allowances for coming late to an event on Monday.

Those affected included the state Commissioners for Environment, Moses Ogodo Ali; Economic Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation, Sabinus Nwankwegu and that of Youth and Sports counterpart, Charles Akpuenika.

Also the Commissioners for Agriculture, Uchenna Orji and his Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters counterpart, Barrister Samuel Okoronkwo were also affected.

Others are included some of the newly appointed 13 local government caretaker committee chairmen, Deputy Chief of Staff office to the Deputy Governor, Prof. Fidelix Okpata and the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Clement Nweke among others.

They were said to have been punished for their lateness to the school debate on government anti- corruption crusade and its internally generated revenue drive held at the Akanu Ibiam International Conference Center Abakaliki.
