Jandor approaches court to transfer appeal against Sanwo-Olu’s election to Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran aka Jandor has asked the Court of Appeal to transfer his appeal challenging Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the March 18 election to Abuja.

The Lagos State governorship election petition tribunal on September 26 upheld Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the election.

The three-member panel led by Justice Mikail Abdullahi dismissed the petitions filed by Adediran and his Labour Party counterpart, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, for lack of merit.

The PDP candidate filed a 34-ground notice of appeal challenging the judgment on October 13.

In the notice, Adediran asked the appellate court to disqualify Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.

He also urged the court to hold that all the votes recorded by Sanwo-Olu and APC in the election were wasted votes due to their non-qualification to participate in the election

In the letter dated October 23, 2023, and addressed to the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongbam-Mensem, the PDP candidate argued that the request for the transfer of the case was to ensure fairness and objectivity in the hearing.

Justice Dongban-Mensem had approved the transfer of election petitions pending in appeal court across the country to Abuja and Lagos to ensure transparency in the hearing.
