President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on winning the 2017 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament and qualifying for next year’s World Cup in Spain.

Having won the 2003 and 2005 editions, the Nigerian Ladies clinched their third Afrobasket title in Mali on Sunday after defeating Senegal 65-48 in the final.

The President in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, joined other sports-loving Nigerians in saluting the heroic performance of the Sam Vincent-led team.

The President commended the players for displaying uncommon strength, confidence, skill and dexterity in their victory over Senegal who are 12-time champions.
