AIT’s Gbenga Aruleba explains being dropped as host of ‘FOCUS NIGERIA’

It is no longer news that veteran broadcaster Gbenga Aruleba has been relieved from anchoring the very popular ‘Focus Nigeria’ on African Independent Television (AIT).

What is news is the reason he was asked to take his bow from hosting the well-followed television show which he (Gbenga) has had the privilege of hosting for at least a decade.

In a series of tweets posted on his time-line, the broadcaster who anchored the TV show which engages in critical issues affecting Nigeria’s polity, from politics to other daily subject matters said the new handlers of the programme are packaging a new show altogether without him.

Mr. Gbenga tweeted; “As if I knew this would be my LAST OUTING on this programme, I was thanking my crew profusely. Thank God I had the chance to publicly do that. These past two months that Focus Nigeria was decreed into a pre-recording program, it hasn’t been easy.

“Now, all the stress has ended as I yield the floor to another, very versatile colleague of mine. I THANK you for the love and useful tips as well. This twitter handle has ceased to be the official handle for Focus Nigeria. It is now my personal handle.

“The new handlers of the programme will come up with a new one, I trust and so you can keep the conversation going there. I am still with AIT, just only relieved of handling this programme, so nothing mega. Thanks and I’ll be seeing you around on this space.”

Mr. Gbenga who started his career with Radio Lagos in 1983 and also served as editor of the establishment before he left for DAAR Communications in 1996 as its General Manager of RayPower (Abuja), later rose to become Head of Current Affairs, a position he has held since August 2016.
