ALI BABA TO BUHARI: Create enabling environment, enact policies to promote the arts sector

Ace comedian Ali Baba has penned an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari urging him to pay attention to the arts and entertainment sector as a means of diversifying the Nigerian economy.

According to the popular comedian in the open letter posted on Instagram, Buhari should endeavour to create an enabling environment and enact policies that will promote the aforementioned sector just like there are enabling laws governing the oil sector.

He wrote; “Like we told those before you, Mr President, we don’t need you to give us money. Just provide the enabling environment, and we will be the ones to give you money’ he wrote.

“Let the government make a deliberate attempt to promote the arts enact piracy laws and provide structure for enforcement of those laws. Build film villages, museums, creative for and cinemas.

“Promote culture and tourism just like you promote crude oil…. then we will show you the money.

“Sir, you see all these meetings you are having, we have held them before… plus several breakout sessions. Only to be forgotten and remembered just at the dawn of another election,” he added.

Ali Baba’s open letter comes just days after another stand-up comedian, I Go Dye took Buhari to the cleaners over the state of the nation and the inability of his government to make life meaningful for Nigerians.

The humour merchant took to his Instagram page to slam the incumbent leader noting that Nigeria’s budgets for the last 3 years has been ‘2016 (6.07 trillion), 2017 (7.298trillion), 2018 (9.12 trillion) totalling N 22.488 trillion and yet there is escalated hunger in the land.
