ANAMBRA GUBER: Obaze beats Ifeanyi Ubah, Obiogolu to emerge PDP candidate

Oseloke Obaze on Monday emerged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election slated for November 18.

He defeated the Chief Executive Officer of Capital Oil, Ifeanyi Ubah, and Alex Obiogolu.
Obaze polled a total vote of 672 votes to defeat Obiogolu who came at a distant second with a total vote of 190 and Ifeanyi Ubah who came third with 94 votes.

Obaze will now face incumbent Governor Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); Tony Nwoye of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Chief Osita Chidoka of the United Progressives Party (UPP) and candidates of other political parties for the state governorship election on November 18.

The chairman of the party primary, Governor Dave Umahi, announced that one of the aspirants, John Okechukwu withdrew from the race along two others while former Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah absented from the race.

Following the development, only agents of Obaze, Ubah and Obiogbolu participated and voted at the primary election that was monitored by five Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials led by Musa Useni from the commission’s Abuja headquarters and Mrs. Amaka Nwankwo from its state office.

A total of 958 delegates were accredited with 956 valid and two invalid.

Obaze was a senior United Nations official before serving as Secretary to the Anambra State Government in the Peter Obi and Willie Obiano administrations.

However, the election ended rather dramatically as Ubah, who came third accused the party of using a delegate list different from the one approved by INEC.

He had wanted to interrupt the announcement of the result before Umahi pleaded with him to exercise patience and promised to allow him talk after the result has been declared.

Soon after officially announcing the result, Umahi handed Ubah the microphone.

In his reaction Ubah said, “This is the impunity that people are complaining about the PDP. Before the Governor leaves I want him to show the media the list that was used to conduct this election.”

While he was still speaking, a visibly angry Umahi said, “As the chairman of the party primary I hereby declare that the election is closed.”

Anambra big brass class are looking frustrated by their own very acts, the game they started are now playing against them.

What you plant today will soon get taller than you. i hope our leaders will think of sustainable growth in leadership opportunities rather than building empires around themselves alone.

The Ngigie, Obiano, Soludo and Akunyili class are well thaught offsprings of Leadership skills that grow out of dilligent life careers and not the ‘one chance’ money miss roads
