CORONAVIRUS: Ekiti sets target to test 100,000 people before June

Ekiti State is targeting to test more than 100,000 for Coronavirus before June, 2020.

This was revealed by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Kayode Fayemi on Public Affairs, Chief Niyi Ojo.

Ojo stated this on Wednesday through an online interaction in Ado Ekiti.

He said the state record of COVID-19 had remained low because the government prepared early to battle the pandemic.

The governor’s aide called on the security agencies in the state to ensure adequate care at the state borders in order to prevent inter-state travellers from coming into Ekiti with the virus.

He said, “Before June, the government would have tested more than 100,000 indigenes. A testing centre will be opened soon in Ekiti.

Ekiti State has been very proactive, hence the low figures of infected persons due to high sensitising on the pandemic. We are prepared for eventualities.

“We have been able to stem the tide if not for unscrupulous elements in the security arms that compromised their lines of duty. We only need to appeal to our security agents to be alive to their responsibilities.”

In his comment during the online interaction, the National Public Relations Officer, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr Abidemi Omonisi said, “From the various medical indicators, the virus is here with us for now. We are still not at the peak yet. Let’s continue to stay safe. COVID- 19 is very real.”
