Five burnt to death in Ondo auto crash

At least five people were burnt to death on Thursday evening when two commercial buses collided around Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The two buses were learnt travelling to Makurdi in Benue State when the accident occurred.

It was learnt that the accident occurred after a head-on collision occurred between an 18- passenger Toyota bus with number plate MKD 341 XA and a J5 bus with a registration number BDG 330 AP.

Eyewitnesses said the accident could have been averted but for one of the buses was on high speed and wrongfully overtook the other bus.

The Head of Operations, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo Sector Command, Olusegun Ogungbemide, who confirmed the incident, said the “Toyota bus with 18 passengers was coming From Lagos and heading to Markurdi in Benue State while the J5 bus was coming from Benin heading towards Owena in Osun State.

“On getting to Oyoyo camp mine the two vehicles had a collision. As a result, the two vehicles were burnt beyond recognition.

“The names and addresses of the two drivers are yet unknown 14 victims have been taken to Federal Medical Centre, Owo, for treatment while about five victims and vehicles were burnt to ashes. The burnt vehicles have been removed from the highway to allow a free -flow of traffic,” he said.
