China hits back at Trump over N'Korea Criticism

Asian giants, China has made it clear through a statement by its foreign ministry to the United States of America that the fresh sanctions imposed on North Korea could undermine cooperation between Beijing and Washington.

China urged a reversal of what it described as a “unilateral action” saying it had lodged “stern representations” with the US over the tough measures imposed on North Korea.

A statement by the US treasury department on Friday revealed that the sanctions were measures aimed at disrupting North Korean shipping companies and vessels, and heighten pressure on its leader Kim Jong-un.

“This will significantly hinder the Kim regime’s capacity to conduct evasive maritime activities that facilitate illicit coal and fuel transports, and erode its abilities to ship goods through international waters,” Steven Mnuchin, treasury secretary, said.

“The president has made it clear to companies worldwide that if they choose to help fund North Korea’s nuclear ambitions, they will not do business with the United States.”

The sanctions imposed on North Korea bans US citizens from dealing with more than 50 vessels and companies, and one person, located in countries including North Korea, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
