IBB, Atiku in secret meeting

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday held a closed door meeting with former military president Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida in Minna, the Niger State Capital.

Although details of the meeting was not known, it won’t be unconnected to efforts by Atiku to gain the support of PDP chieftains, in achieve his political ambition.

The former Vice President recently announced his return to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku arrived IBB’s residence at about 12:45.

He was received at the Minna Airport by the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Ahmed Ketso, the State PDP Chairman, Barrister Tanko Beji and a crowd of PDP supporters in the state.

After the meeting, which lasted for about one and half hours, newsmen and some supporters of the former Vice President were left bewildered as the politician gave them the cold shoulders.

Atiku who was wearing a long face after the meeting, refused to speak to the press and shunned party supporters who waited patiently at the airport to bid him good bye.

One of his aide had reportedly told the anxious newsmen, “Please pave way; he is not ready to speak with you.”

Atiku, it was further learnt made straight for his waiting vehicle that drove him to the airport where he again, snubbed his new party supporters who had waited patiently to bid him goodbye.

Although it was not clear why the former APC chieftain treated members of his new PDP party and newsmen the way he did, widespread insinuations are that Babangida may have advised him against continuing with his presidential aspiration.
