Iwobi in action, Aubameyang scores on debut as Arsenal thrash Everton

Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi returned to action at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday where Arsenal ended a run of three successive Premier League defeats with a 3-0 victory over Watford.

Iwobi made his 19th PL appearance of the season, while goalkeeper Petr Cech kept his 200th clean sheet in the league.

The fine victory follows their 2-0 win over AC Milan at the San Siro in a Europa League round of 16 first leg tie on Thursday, which ended their run of defeats in all competitions.

Shkodran Mustafi was the first to find the net when he headed in Mesut Ozil’s left-wing free-kick to give the Gunners the lead eight minutes into the game.

African footballer of the year nominee and Gabonese striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doubled their lead when he collected Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s pass on the hour mark.

Watford had a chance to pull one back but Troy Deeney’s penalty was saved by Petr Cech.

With 13 minutes to go, Mkhitaryan sealed the victory– his first league goal for Arsenal– with a shot from inside the box following Aubameyang’s pass.

The Gunners remain sixth on the table, 12 points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, who were displaced from third by Tottenham following their 4-1 victory over Bournemouth on Sunday, in a game that saw Harry Kane pick up an ankle injury.

Arsenal are also vying for a spot in next season’s Champions League through the Europa League. They hold a 2-0 lead against Milan and will host the Serie A giants in the second leg on Thursday.
