New US sanctions, illegal, draconian, Russia says

Russia has described a fresh set of sanctions imposed upon it by the United States of America as illegal and draconian.

Moscow also boasted that the sanctions are no threat to its economy after news of the measures sent the rouble tumbling to two-year lows and sparked a wider asset sell-off.

Reacting to the fresh sanctions, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, speaking to reporters on a conference call, said the US move was “absolutely unfriendly”.

“Making a linking to these events is for us unacceptable and such restrictions like those passed by the American side earlier … are absolutely illegal and do not correspond to international law,” said Peskov.

Authorities in Moscow also rejected allegations it used nerve agent against former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

Hours ago, the United States had stated it’s intention to impose fresh sanctions on Russia over the nerve agent attack the former spy.

That much information was revealed by the spokeswoman of the US State Department, Heather Nauert, who revealed in a statement that it has been confirmed that Russia “has used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law”.
