OFFA BANK ROBBERY: We counted 50 dead bodies, Vigilante group claims

The number of lives lost from the deadly robbery of five banks which took place in Offa, Kwara State which was put at 30 as at yesterday has risen to 50 after claims by a local security group.

According to Wasiu Adepoju, the Operations Commander, Vigilance Group of Nigeria, Offa, Kwara State chapter, no less than 50 lifeless bodies were counted by his men after the deadly bank attacks.

Adepoju said; “After the robbery, we counted about 50 dead policemen and civilians. They shattered the bodies with bullets. They targeted mainly the heads of their victims.”

However, the police, through the state Commissioner of police, Mr. Lawan Ado, claims that 17 people including nine police officers and eight civilians, lost their lives during the attack.

Reports say the robbers numbering up to 30 split themselves into teams to rob five banks including Guarantee Trust Bank, Eco Bank, First Bank, Union Bank and Zenith Bank in the town.

They reportedly blew up the entrances to the banks with dynamite and reportedly carted away millions of naira in cash shooting into the air sporadically to scare away residents and passersby.
