PLATEAU: 8 people killed by unknown gunmen at local pub

Tragedy struck at a popular local pub in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State when assailants suspected to be Fulani herdsmen gunned down no less than eight fun seekers.

According to a resident of the area who witnessed the incident; “eight persons were killed when the gunmen struck on Sunday night.”

The resident who pleaded anonymity added that the gunmen; “stormed the village on Sunday night and opened fire on the people at the drinking joint.”

The incident was confirmed by Mr Matthias Tyopev, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, who also doubles as Spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command.

He however, stated that five persons instead of eight died and three others were injured.

The police spokesman said; “Yes, I am aware of the killings. Some unknown gunmen suspected to be herdsmen opened fire on people at a drinking joint and succeeded in killing five on the spot. Three were injured and taken to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital for treatment.

“The people who were injured are responding to treatment. For now, no arrest has been made; investigation is ongoing. By my records, five persons died.”

Reports say the incident is coming barely three weeks after a similar attack in the Dong District in the Jos North Local Government Area.
