England produced a sensational performance at the final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup on Saturday in India as they came from 2-0 down to thrash Spain 5-2.

After reducing their deficit in the first half, the English team returned from the break to score four goals in the second half which led them to lifting the title for the first time ever.

A double from Barcelona forward Sergio Gomez put Spain in the winning position but Rhian Brewster’s eighth of the tournament gave England hope just before half-time.

England then levelled through Wolves forward Morgan Gibbs White. Phil Foden then scored twice, before Marc Guehi got another as England took the trophy.

Speaking after the stunning victory, England coach Steve Cooper said: “I am just so proud, we were 2-0 down and we played our way out, we didn’t stop, stuck to our style – and that’s the way to do it.”

England are now holders of the U-17 and U-20 World Cup titles.
