Wenger confirms Sanchez will stay at Arsenal

Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger, has said star forward, Alexis Sanchez, will stay at the club for this season and perhaps for more seasons.

The future of the 28-year old has been a subject of speculation having been a reported target for Premier League rivals, Manchester City and Ligue 1 side, Paris St-Germain.

The Chile international is entering the final year of his deal at Emirates Stadium and has stalled on signing a new contract with the Gunners, which has given the impression he wants to leave the club.

But Wenger says, “He will be here for this season and if we manage to do it for more seasons, we will do it as well.”

Sanchez was granted an extended summer break after playing for Chile in the Fifa Confederations Cup in Russia, during which he reportedly said “the idea is to play and win the Champions League. I’ve dreamt about it since I was a kid.”

He returned to training and the Gunners Boss confirms he will play for another season in Arsenal colours.

“The only thing I can tell you is he is focused,” added Wenger. “My decision is clear – he will stay and he will respect that.”

Arsenal will face Premier League champions Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
