The northeastern province of Heilongjiang in China witnessed the death of 21 people who were killed in late-night fire at a coal mine and left one missing.

“Rescuers are searching for the missing person”, a work safety employee, who only gave his family name Xing, said.

The provincial work safety administration confirmed the death toll on Saturday.

According to State-run Xinhua news agency, 21 bodies were recovered from the Xinghua mine (located in the city of Jixi) – owned by the Heilongjiang Longmay Mining Holding Group after the fire was brought under control.
