Death toll in Maiduguri blast hits 50

The number of people who lost their lives in the multiple explosions that hit Maiduguri, the Borno State capital has risen to 53, while about 100 people are reported to have sustained various degrees of injury.

In what the army described as a “high level of desperation on the part of the Boko Haram terrorists”, fresh multiple explosions rocked Ajilari Railway cross in Gomari Airport ward of Maiduguri metropolis Sunday night.

National and International humanitarian agencies, as well as hospital sources put the death toll to over 60 as many of the injured victims could not make it as they died while receiving treatment today (Monday) morning.

The explosions which were suspected to have been masterminded by suicide bombers occurred simultaneously at about 7:38pm, while the last four took place at about 8pm which has forced many residents to flee into the main city for safety.
