Governors of the 36 states are expected to gather in Abuja today (Wednesday) under the Nigerian Governors’ Forum to discuss their dwindling financial fortunes, and to find a solution to the issue of unpaid salaries in about 18 states.

The governors, are to brainstorm, and come up with a bail out scheme for the financially handicapped states.

This much was contained in a statement issued Tuesday by Director-General of the Governors’ Forum, Mr. Asishana Okauru.

The governors are said to be worried that if the situation in the affected states is allowed to linger, it may portend danger for the nation’s nascent democracy. The states that are financially down, it was learnt, if left on their own may not be able to address some of the very serious problems confronting them.

The governors will examine issues relating to the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) the Excess Crude Accounts ( ECA) and Revenue Enhancement Scheme as it affects state revenue flow for states, according to items listed on the agenda of today’s meeting.

The meeting will be presided over by NGF chairman and governor of Zamfara State, Abdullaziz Yari.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja, Okauru disclosed that every governor was invited to the meeting.

This for me is a meeting coming tooooooo late but better late than never. This problem needs to be solved. Paying them outstanding salaries might not even be enough, arranging a compensation package to make up for all the months these people had to suffer is a needed must. Please lets get this done.

I seriously want to port my nationality, anyone has ideas of non African countries that may be willing to adopt me? Okay? So in the first place why do our states not have money? We need to look for other sources of income other than oil. Any government that cannot meet its primary obligations is a failure. I hope this meetings yield productive results and not just another convention for rocking chair activities.
