Gunmen attack military checkpoint in Ebonyi

Gunmen in the early hours of Friday attacked a military checkpoint on the Amangwu axis of the Amasiri-Owutu-edda highway in Edda local government area of Ebonyi State.

The spokesman for the state police command, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident to journalists in Abakaliki.

He said: “Information reaching us from Owutu Police Division reveals that some hoodlums attacked a military checkpoint on Friday morning.

“It is not yet certain if there were casualties. The attack was carried out by suspected gunmen who operated with motorcycles in the area.”

Ebonyi and other states in the South-East have had several attacks on security agents in the last three years with about 100 officers killed during the period.
